Bug zappers are a more traditional mosquito repellent, luring the bugs in and then electrocuting them to protect you and your family. The Flowtron 40-watt Outdoor Bug Zapper uses several elements to bring mosquitoes around before disposing of them. That includes a blue UV light, along with an octenol attractant that draws in biting insects like mosquitoes. Once the mosquitoes are drawn in, they’re zapped. The bugs then are collected in the machine’s base, which you can empty as needed.
The Flowtron zapper provides coverage of up to 1 acre around the machine. It’s encased in polycarbonate for weatherproofing, with a lantern style that blends in with most outdoor decor. This machine is powered by electricity, so you’ll need to position it near an outlet or use an extension cord. The octenol attractant should also be replaced every 30 days for peak performance. Plus, this zapper doesn’t just combat mosquitoes: It can also target fruit flies, gnats, moths, and wasps.
